Night Vessels draws inspiration from Italian ancient artifacts, including painted Maiolica vessels, ancient terracotta sculptures and textile designs. 

This series continues to bridges my traditional oil painting techniques with domestic crafts like embroidery using a bright and bold palette. 

Each vessel (an undeniable reference to the female body) serves as both a container and the contained, set within imagined domestic environments and night landscapes that reflect the different places I've lived with my family between Europe and California.

While I may not be a virtuoso of the needle, for me, embroidery is a ritualistic way to reclaim the lost union between the functional and decorative, creativity and skill, folk art and craftsmanship. 

Through this blend of oil painting and needlework, I explore how these diverse influences intersect in contemporary storytelling, highlighting the continuity of ancient practices within modern artistic expression.

This series is a cultural hybrid that blends Italian Renaissance painting techniques with the colorful light and palette of West Coast painters. By employing traditional techniques, I challenge conventional notions of power and grandeur. Historically used to depict and maintain power structures, my work repurposes these techniques to focus instead on the uncelebrated chores and basic human needs.

Domestic Magic is a series that delves into ancient Italian folklore, drawing from oral history to explore the enduring presence of magical thinking and superstition in contemporary life.
