Statement

Pressure is a series of abstract paintings built on one rule.

A daily practice: one work in acrylic on paper, made in one sitting, within one hour. Every piece is built from one structural decision at a time, each one tested against any point of the continuum. The large oil paintings on linen are a translation at scale of the same rules.

Pressure is an inherent rule of nature. It shapes matter, ecosystems, relationships, communities, and the self. This series investigates what holds and what gives when everything pushes in.

My underlying belief is that real change only happens within a working system, and that any change must be tested to verify it doesn’t break what already holds.

My work is rooted in my personal experience as an immigrant woman and mother who relocated to Los Angeles three years ago, navigating American life and its architecture, a city without a city, its inherent violence, environmental, political, social and physical, and the pressure of systems that demand you perform community while trust is made void.

In every painting, the empty space is not empty. It holds its ground. It pushes back.
