In my work, I create highly chromatic still life paintings that blend the textures and techniques of acrylics, oils, and embroidery. Rooted in traditional Western painting techniques, particularly Italian oil painting, my compositions draw inspiration from the theatrical style of the Renaissance and Mannerism. By employing these classical techniques, I challenge the conventional notions of power and grandeur historically associated with them. Instead, I shift the focus to the often-overlooked domestic tasks—like laundry and house cleaning—that quietly sustain our everyday lives.
My art is autobiographical, reflecting the layered archetypes of femininity and motherhood. I draw from a diverse range of sources, from the mundane to ancient Mediterranean cultural artifacts like Maiolica vessels and fabrics. These objects intertwine with Italian folklore, memory, blending real life with imagination.
Having lived 'in between places' for the past 15 years and raised a bilingual family, my work explores identity and belonging within the shifting concept of home. It invites viewers to pause amidst the complexities of modern life, offering a sense of connection and understanding in an increasingly chaotic world.
Fabiola Gironi (b. 1982) is a contemporary artist born and raised in Milan, Italy.
With a Master's Degree in History of Art, she primarily works in painting and drawing. Gironi has lived in the UK, Madrid, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, and has traveled to India and West Africa, reflecting a life enriched by diverse experiences.
In 2018, prompted by motherhood during the Covid pandemic, Gironi began producing a significant body of work focusing on still-lifes and interiors, exploring the transient nature of 'home' through her experiences of frequent moves and bilingualism.
Since then, Gironi has showcased her work internationally, including a notable solo exhibition “Domestic Magic” at Rubin Gallery in Milan, group shows at Mokum Gallery in Amsterdam and at Billis Williams Gallery Los Angeles.
Gironi's work was been showed at Atalanta Art Fair and San Francisco Art Fair.
Her work is included in numerous private collections across Europe and the United States.
Currently residing and working in Los Angeles, California, Gironi is preparing for her next solo exhibition in 2025.
“Fabiola's still lives combine abstraction and realism in a way that enables us to peek into the secret life of mundane objects while also opening up the door of a dreamlike world in which we are all welcomed."
